The Camera

Camera obscura- the Latin term meaning "dark chamber"

Visible spectrum- the portion of the electromagnetic spectrum that you can see.

Electromagnetic spectrum- any possible frequencies of electromagnetic radiation.

Camera sensor-  takes an optical image to an electric signal.

Aperture- the opening where light travels

Shutter- the time over which light is captured.

Exposure- the total amount of light allowed to fall on the sensor during the taking of a picture.

Depth of Field-  the portion of a scene that appears acceptably sharp in the image.

F-stop-  the focal length divided by the "effective" aperture diameter.

Focal length- a measure of how strongly the system converges (focuses) or diverges (defocuses) light.
