Photographer Steve McCurry immortalized the haunted eyes of a 12-year-old refugee in a camp on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border on this magazine cover. Soviet helicopters destroyed her village and family, forcing her to make a two-week trek out of the perilous mountains of Afghanistan. The photo became a National Geographic icon after it was published on the cover in June 1985. Since then, this raw, untouched image has been used on rugs and tattoos, making it one of the most widely reproduced photos in the world.
Mention what is communicated about the people in the portrait and how this is communicated.

Portrait and selfportrait tips and ideas

1. Think about your motivation and emotions: Blankly staring at the camera rarely gets good results. Be silly, don’t be afraid to over-act. The worst that can happen is that you fill up your memory card with useless photos; but you might also find yourself with a proper gold-nugget of a self portrait.
 2. Use a tripod. Seriously. While it’s possible to get good photos while you’re hanging on to your camera at arms-length, it’s a lot easier if you’ve got the freedom to move around a bit.
3. If you’ve got a remote trigger, that’s usually a better and more controllable than trying to use the self-timer.

What I liked about this environmental portrait was the background of the photo. I chose this photo because when I lived in California my aunt and my uncle lived at Laguna beach and would always bring a camera with them and take different portraits like this one.

What I like about this photo is how the environment around the subject of the environmental portrait really brings out the subject. I chose this photo clearly because of how the subject stand out in the photo.

What I like about this self portrait is how unique it is, it just stands out. Just the way it was taken just makes it look so cool and how we made the red and blue colors stand out in the phtoto.

What I like about this self portrait is how the person in the photo wasn't afraid to be silly and over act. I chose this because it follows what I think was one of the best tips for self portraits.

What I like about this causal portrait is how perfectly the subject is placed in the the photo. I chose this photo because it really shows  how this is a casual photo.

What I like about this casual portrait is the angle that it was taken at. I chose this photo because I like the lighting to it and the slant brings out the good background.

For my portrait assignment I will be shooting my friend Araceli. I'll be shooting maybe inside the school but I also want to experiment outside as well. To make the shot successful I'll be creative with different angles to shoot with.

Welcome Back

This is one of my favorite photo's of 2010 because
of the story behind it and how the subject is so obviously singled out in the photo.

This is one of my favorite photo's of 2010 because the photo tells a story and subject is clearly in focus and the background makes the subject stand out as well as help tell the story in the photo.

This is one of my favorite photos from 2010 because i can relate to the actual picture and i think that the way the photo was taken clearly points out what really happens on that soccer field.

                                                                    Best of 2010

  1. In my opinion I believe that the best song of 2010 is Grenade by Bruno Mars. I chose this because not only does it have a good sound and beat but the lyrics are phenomenal. What attracted me about this choice is Bruno Mars' voice, which i think is the best i'v heard on the radio all year hands down.

2. I think that my favorite movie of 2010 was Despicable Me. I chose this movie as my favorite because when I had first saw it, it brought me comfort and made me laugh.  What attracted me about this choice is just the great story line that the film had.

3. I think think the most important story of the year was the earthquake in Haiti. I chose this story because the earthquake made a huge difference all over the world. It taught all of us to get together no matter what our opinions are and help out those in need.

    4. I think the most important person of 2010 would be a good friend of mine named Jerad Loyd. I chose Jerad because if it wasnt for him i never would of gone to Texas Oaks Baptist Church and I wouldn't have asked Jesus Christ to be my Lord and Savior. Simple as that.

5. I think the biggest sport of 2010 is SOCCER! I chose soccer because back in 2010 it was my first year playing soccer at akins as a freshman on jv and it was the last year of coaching for coach Lindsey and coach Sailor, the best coaches EVER!

                                                                         My Holiday

 1. One thing that happened this holiday that I wont forget would be the trail of life that I got to participate in at our church.
2. I actually don't have any new years resolutions for 2011.
3. I'm looking forward to our soccer season in 2011.
